The Toolbox Party

about

Playing a musical saw has been a fun way of offering more comedy in my performances. When folks know that you play music with a hand tool and have fun doing it, they tend to be more comfortable sharing every silly aside and bad joke related to hand tools. I began collecting them and that soon gave birth to this song.

The Toolbox Party

I saw my saw was gettin' hammered
As I was strummin' my guitar
He was guzzlin' screwdrivers with the screwdrivers
At the far end of the bar

The vise and the vise-grip
Were both a gettin' kinda tight
They invited the whole toolbox
To party thru the night

The monkey wrench had his teeth
Round a banana daiquiri
And the file was soundin'
Sorta raspy to me

From chuggin' shots of whiskey
With the plumb bob and level
Who were both a few bubbles shy
From their binging and revel

The jigsaw was a jiggin'
With a jigger full of gin
And the shovel was a diggin'
A couple o' hoes that just walked in

The come along had come along
To have a little fun
It was half past eight, everyone was feelin' great
The party had just begun

The frame square squared off
In a game of chance with the rake
Who was rakin' in the winnin's
Without makin' a mistake

So i played another tune
And I sang another rhyme
While everybody in the Toolbox
Was havin' a good time.

The nails were all gettin bent
While old crowbar crowed for more
The ladder's twelve steps were wrung dry
And thought the whole bash was a bore

The tape was sizin' up the crowd
And askin' what's your pleasure
She knew how to treat us right, as we partied through the night
And threw in a few extra shots for good measure

I saw my saw was gettin' hammered
As I was strummin' my guitar
He was guzzlin' screwdrivers with the screwdrivers
At the far end of the bar

And me I just kept on pickin'
While everyone was actin' like fools
They were drinkin' and dancin' and gamblin'
It was one hell of a fling for the tools
One hell of a fling for the tools
One hell of a fling
